Sherman Lewis had a huge impacting legacy on African Americans being recruited for football in Kentucky. When he played high school football it was uncommon for African Americans in Kentucky to receive athletic scholarships. Lewis showed everyone that it wasn't only possible but that anyone could do it. He worked very had and was also talented. Michigan State has one of the best football programs in the U.S. and he was able to succeed there and even become a Heisman trophy finalist.
